Whether you love soccer or not, there’s nothing wrong with learning a little bit more about the international soccer tournament scheduled to take the world by storm: Copa America. Here’s what you can expect at this year’s event.

Plenty of matches

Copa America has scheduled 26 matches among 12 teams over the course of three weeks. These matches will take place between June 14 and July 7. During this period, fans can witness the beauty that is an international soccer tour right in Brazil, a country known for its fervent soccer fans.

The Brazil soccer tours will take place in five different cities, showcasing the beauty of Brazil: Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and Sao Paulo.

Top contenders

The leader of the pack is undoubtedly Uruguay, the tournament’s most successful team to date. However, Argentina and Brazil are scheduled to go head-to-head on Brazil’s home turf amidst a huge rivalry, making this a can’t-miss event. There are even rumors that Lionel Messi will be among some of the world’s strongest soccer players showcased at the event.

Though most of the participants this year are members of CONMEBOL, two AFC teams have accepted this year’s invitation: Japan and Qatar.

This year, in particular, is especially unique since it’s the first year with no CONCACAF representatives.

Thousands of fans

It’s estimated that 27% of all trips made in 2012 were for the sole purpose of witnessing a sporting event. With so many heavy-hitters expected to hit the grass this year, this number may surge for these Brazil soccer tours. The audience capacity of the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro can hold nearly 75,000 people alone.
