The Start of Bundesliga’s 2016-17 Season Marks a Great Time for a Tour to Germany

Soccer, or fußball, is Germany’s most popular sport. With four World Cup titles and three European Championship titles, it’s safe to say that the national German Football team is pretty good, as well as popular. Soccer in Germany is akin to baseball in the United States: a national pastime.

Germany defeated Argentina in the 2014 World Cup, declaring their dominance in the sport, and will continue to hold the title until the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

As of Aug. 11, 2016, FIFA/Coca-Cola places the German Men’s National Team in fourth place in the world rankings, behind Argentina, Belgium, and Colombia, respectively.

While National Team matches are scheduled far apart, the Bundesliga (Federal League, in English), has scheduled matches all over Germany. Bundesliga is Germany’s premier league, and currently holds the highest average attendance of all football leagues worldwide.

The 2016-17 Bundesliga season began on Aug. 26, and will extend for 34 weeks, until mid-May.

When you tour Germany, you can see Dortmund, home to Borussia Dortmund, the fourth ranked team in Bundesliga, Westfalenstadion, the European stadium ranked highest in attendance, and Deutsches Fußballmuseum (the German Football Museum).

Also in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia are four other Bundesliga teams: Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Cologne, and FC Schalke 04. While in the Rhine region, take time to cross the border to the Netherlands, home to Amsterdam’s merchant-house architecture, canals, Rembrandt and Van Gogh museums, and Ajax FC.

Wherever you go on a world soccer tour, you will revel in rich, unique cultural experiences and gain access to the best international soccer possible.
